Part 3: Description, META Description and Keywords
In this third part of the general submission guidelines we will analyze how you can successfully write all sorts of descriptions and choose the right keywords.
Description: A short piece of text describing what your site is about. Some directories do not allow promotional language so be sure to read carefully their submission guidelines.
The standard length of text in the description field is up to 255 chars (characters) in most countries and preferably should be written in the language of the directory. Be sure to include characters and spaces in the total measurement.
Length varies from country to country with the French directories requiring 100, 255, 300, 400, and 500 chars. The 255 chars length of description is the most common, but you can not ignore the remaining French directories which rise in considerable numbers.
In Germany there are 3 variations: 255, 300 and 500 chars, with the standard being the 255 chars.
META Description: This text is going to be read by the search engines (Google does not make any use of it). It is best to embed a couple of your keywords in the META description. Regarding the length of text, usually it is the same deal with the Description or sometimes of less chars. The text can be the same as per the Description field.
Keywords: In the keyword field you should put your second best keywords. Keep your valuable keywords for your anchor text. Directories allow from 5 to 10 keywords. Keep in mind that keywords are placed here for use by the directory visitors who enter their search terms. This is your keyword public. Clearly the use of keywords in the directories is different than that in the search engines.
